Frost Engineering & Consulting served as the field assessor and project engineer for the structural assessment and rehabilitation of this steelworks storage facility. This 80-year-old facility had succumbed to excessive deflection of most of its columns due to years of wind loading and localized damage from normal operations. Frost designed a lateral bracing system consisting of new reinforced concrete foundations, steel x-bracing, and specially shaped gusset plates to aid localized column replacements in stabilizing the building. Completing this project required Frost to reference and apply specifications from older editions of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, as several existing components of the framing were assessed for continued use.
