University of Notre Dame World Peace Plaza Project

Frost Engineering & Consulting partnered with Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects to design the World Peace Plaza at the University of Notre Dame. Located at the edge of Saint Mary’s Lake, the plaza features a boardwalk, pier and an infinity fountain.

The team at Frost designed structural support for the infinite fountain, the in-water pier foundations as well as the above-water structural framing to support the wood and cable finishings of the boardwalk. David Pirchio, a Project Engineer here at Frost, carried out most of the structural design and detailing for the pultruded FRP boardwalk which extends over the water into Saint Mary’s Lake. FRP rebar was also used in the mat foundation supporting the infinity fountain.
