Frost Engineering & Consulting was engaged for structural engineering services involving renovations to Lyons Hall, a historic women’s residence hall at the University of Notre Dame. Built between 1925 and 1927 in the Collegiate Gothic style by architects Francis W. Kervick and Vincent F. Fagan, Lyons Hall was originally part of a post–World War I expansion to address student housing needs, earning its place on the “Gold Coast” of South Quad alongside Morrissey and Howard Halls. The landmark arch framing St. Mary’s Lake remains a signature feature, and the building has housed female students since 1974.
Frost’s role included providing a detailed structural analysis and selective retrofit designs to update and modernize the facility for modernization and accessibilty upgrades while preserving the building’s historic character and architectural integrity.
