Castlewood Canyon State Park in Colorado spans 2,628 acres of the scenic Black Forest region. Frost Engineering and Consulting was commissioned to provide structural engineering services for a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) pedestrian bridge over Cherry Creek within the park.
Frost served as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for the review and certification of the bridge, which features two trusses spanning 85 feet. FRP is an excellent material for pedestrian bridges, providing both practical and economic benefits. Its corrosion resistance and durability are especially valuable in harsh weather conditions like those in Colorado, resulting in lower maintenance requirements. Additionally, FRP’s design flexibility and lighter weight compared to traditional materials facilitate easier transportation, faster installation, and reduced construction time and labor costs.
