Originally constructed as a men’s residence hall in 1939, Breen-Phillips served as a home for naval officers in training, and, at one point, was simultaneously used to house the university’s athletic department offices. Breen-Phillips became one of the first women’s residence halls after the University began admitting women in 1972.
The historic residence hall underwent major renovations to upgrade utilities and accessibility and to expand community spaces.
The historic residence hall underwent major renovations to upgrade utilities and accessibility and to expand community spaces. The Frost team was enlisted for structural engineering services including performing a field investigation of the existing structure to confirm suspected construction type and document framing conditions and member orientations for areas impacted by the renovation project. Frost’s scope also included the design of enlarged openings in existing walls as well as designing modifications to the existing building footprint to accommodate a new elevator addition.
