Frost Engineering & Consulting carried out field measurements at Dayton-Phoenix’s locomotive engine parts manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio to measure the existing die rack systems and then proceeded to develop load ratings. Due to the high variability of the dozens of rack systems (which were constructed over time on an as-needed basis), each system was measured for verified dimensions in order to develop unique load ratings for each system. Assessment efforts included two days on site and multiple meetings with the customer for discussions regarding potential rack uses. Frost reported engineered load ratings for each individual shelf on each rack unit as limited by either strength of deflection.
