In partnership with Indiana Landmarks, Frost Engineering & Consulting was enlisted to provide an initial structural condition assessment report on the Bethlehem Healing Temple located in the heart of Gary, Indiana. The historic structure made Indiana Landmark’s Ten Most Endangered List in 2024 as a site considered to be in imminent jeopardy.

Designed for the congregation of Gary’s Central Christian Church, construction began on the brick and stone structure in 1919 and concluded in 1923.

Founded in 1906 as a home for the Gary Works steel plant, the city of Gary has many significant historic structures including single properties and entire districts on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed for the congregation of Gary’s Central Christian Church, construction began on the brick and stone structure in 1919 and concluded in 1923. The Renaissance Revival style building features classical elements and decorative details mixing gothic and baroque features with old Italian designs. Upon completion, the church was lauded as “a distinct contribution to the architecture of the city” and a credit to Indiana architect A. Frank Wickes’ talent.

The Frost team performed an onsite field inspection as part of a facility management effort to assist in maintaining the large historic structure. Frost documented detailed findings and provided an initial report with recommendations for structural repairs and preventative measures.
