Located in the heart of downtown Elkhart, Indiana, this new health facility project was a collaborative effort between Beacon Health System, Elkhart Community Schools and the Community Foundation of Elkhart. The Elkhart Health & Aquatics Center was envisioned by local leaders and generous donors as a place of health, fitness and community for Elkhart County.
The center includes indoor and outdoor common spaces, physical fitness facilities, racquetball courts, squash courts, an indoor track and a larger than Olympic-sized 66-meter competition pool. The pool area has spectator seating for up to 1,200 people. The 1.1-million-gallon pool is one of the largest in the nation. The total cost for this entirely new construction project was approximately $72 million and the building is 171,000 square feet in size. Total project time was approximately two years. The facility also offers a large, multi-court gymnasium with two full basketball courts with almost 14,000 square feet of space.

The structure consisted of reinforced concrete footings, steel framing, CMU bearing and shear walls, concrete floor decks and open-web steel joist roofs with metal decking. The team at Frost designed the CMU bearing and shear walls (both components and connection details) which existed in all major portions of the facility. Frost also designed the spectator stands in the pool area which consisted of hot-rolled steel framing, precast decking and CMU infill.
