Project Description
Ceramic Waste Chute Addition
Middletown, Ohio
Client:
AK Steel
Service:
- Structural Design
Industry:
- Industrial & Manufacturing
Frost Engineering & Consulting designed this four-story, 2-ft diameter chute to assist workers in the AK Steel mill with disposing of ceramic nozzle waste after each molten steel pour. This included completing OSHA-10 training and site-specific safety training to help ensure the safety of Frost staff as well as those of the client. A very narrow area existed in 3D space to pass and connect the 2-ft diameter pipe, and this discovery was only possible by modeling the pipe, its structural connections, and the existing building deck and framing in Revit. Frost coordinated the locations of pipe flanges with AK Steel staff to facilitate future replacement of pipe sections and submitted digital CAD files exported from Revit for use in AK Steel’s digital master plan.
